Lately I've been thinking about auditory stimulation as a coping strategy. Over the years, I've noticed that there are certain tasks I perform better when there is music playing in the background. Some other tasks are easier when I'm listening to spoken word works, such as podcasts or audiobooks. Most recently, I've discovered some "white noise"-type tracks with brainwave pulses embedded in them. Each works in its own way, but sometimes the wrong type of noise for a given task can make things even worse.

Have you ever experimented with sound therapy? How has it worked for you? Share your thoughts in the forum or the blog post.

How are your tasks broken up?  I haven't been scientific about trying to figure out which tasks are better suited to which auditory stimulation, but I imagine that would be helpful to know for me!  Obviously, I can't write emails while listening to an audiobook, but I can write them while listening to music.  I'll have to pay more attention to that.

Where did you find the white noise tracks with brainwave pulses embedded?  Those sound fascinating and I'd love to give them a try.

I usually try to listen to a podcast or an audiobook while I do mundane (usually number crunching or report printing) tasks at work.  I like to have music going while sending work emails (sometimes a podcast will work, but not always).

I find that I don't need as much auditory stimulation at home when working on tasks.  Often I get involved in a task, even just doing dishes, enough that I don't get distracted and feel like I need the extra noise to stay productive like I do at work.  I do enjoy listening to podcasts or audiobooks while cleaning and doing my own crafts though at home.
